THE THOMPSON FAMILY
MICHAEL AND BRYAN THOMPSON
After studying for one year at High Peak
College Michael went into the catering business aged 17. Previous
employment includes Bath Priory, Hambleton Hall, Fischer's
of Baslow, Riber Hall and latterly working for
Richard Smith at Thyme in Sheffield as Head Chef.
Michael transferred to The Druid Inn, as Head Chef/Director
when it was refurbished and then re-launched in February 2005.
Bryan studied at High
Peak College and gained an NVQ level 1-3 in catering
and pastry. From the age of 19 he has worked his way up to
Head Pastry Chef, whilst still keeping a hands-on approach
in all the various departments of the kitchen. He has worked
at Fischers of Baslow, Ston Easton Park, Bath Priory and the
Thyme organisation. In 1999-2001 he had a joint business with
his father in the village of Hope, in the Peak District. This
was a busy cafe during the day and opened several nights a
week as a Bistro. Bryan has also worked at The Druid Inn since
the refurbishment.
The Druid Inn is a family owned and run business trading
under the name of Thomthom Ltd, which incorporates Michael
and Bryan together with their parents Eric and Brenda. Their
aim is to re-create the fabulous reputation The Druid Inn
once held throughout the Peak District, thus making it the
premier Gastro Pub of the area.
The business now features in the Good Pub Guide and won the
Pub Sandwich of the Year award in 2005.
The Druid Inn has recently received a Bib Gourmand award
from Michelin, and features in their 2008 guide.
Highly Commended in the Derbyshire Pub of the Year Category
of the Derbyshire Food and Drink Awards for 2008
